Riding Tips

Ready to ride like the wind?

Before you hop on your bike, check these safety tips off your list.

Inspect Your Bike

At B-cycle, we’re obsessed with keeping our stations and bikes in tip-top shape. You can do us a solid by inspecting your bike before your ride. Test the tires, brakes and seat post to make sure they’re in working order. Find something wonky? Just re-dock that B-cycle, call up customer service and check out another bike.

Wear a Helmet

Always consider wearing a helmet. Texas doesn’t require helmets for adults 18 years or older, but studies show the head is an important part of the human body.

Stay Safe

Follow these simple tips to make sure your ride is a safe one.

  • Ride with the flow of traffic.
  • Obey traffic signs.
  • Don’t ride on the sidewalks downtown.
  • Use hand signals.
  • Wear pants (okay, that’s less about safety and more about common decency).

Plan a Route

Throughout Austin, there are countless bike lanes and bike trails built especially for—you guessed it—bikes! Check out our Resources page for suggested routes.
