Happy Bike Month, y’all! Established in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month is a way to showcase the benefits of bicycling and encourage more people to bike.
It’s Bike Month 2018. Ride Away Y’all!
The biggest day of Bike Month was Bike to Work Day, aka #b2wd, on Friday, May 18. This event was celebrated in communities from coast to coast all over the United States. Here in Austin, with the help of local businesses (like Austin Bcyle), Bike Austin set up 40 fueling stations for the cyclists across the city, with free coffee, snacks and swag!
Austin Bcycle was honored to host two of the fueling stations located at 11th & Congress and City Hall, where cyclists could collect stamps for the Bicycle Passport to enter the after party at Cheer Up Charlie's. As a part of the giveaways, folks could spin to win the Bcycle t-shirts, sunglasses, free day passes and free one-month passes!
This May, Austin Bcycle also had two new sponsors come onboard - Austin 3-1-1 and Austin Energy Green Choice! Austin 3-1-1 is a robust Citywide Information Center where ambassadors are available to answer residents’ concerns 24/7. Austin Energy Green Choice allows you to choose 100% “Texas Wind” to use with your car or home so you can be a leader in renewable energy!
