2017 Austin B-cycle Expansion Details

Has a full station ever happened to you?

Running into packed stations when you need to end your trip should happen less often starting this week because we’re expanding 12 of our most popular B-stations.

More docks mean more room for bikes and less of a chance that you’ll encounter a full station. By increasing the capacity of the station, it will also empty out less often, so you should always have a bike waiting for you at the nearest station.

Over the next eighteen months, we’ll be installing at least 19 all-new stations, starting with one this week at 13th & San Antonio, seen left. The next three should arrive this Spring at Cesar Chavez & Congress, Barton Springs & Sterzing, and on Henderson between 6th & 9th.

Our Operations team will still be working on bikes and moving them between stations, as normal. Only now they should be able to focus more on bike and station maintenance. At night when our trucks aren’t out on the streets, the expanded stations will be better able to handle the movement of bikes.

Full and empty stations could still happen, especially during SXSW. If it happens to you, check the new and improved B-cycle app to find the next closest station and real-time bike and dock availability.

We’ve also extended the no-charge ride time to 60 minutes to make it even easier to get to your destination. But if you’re cutting it close and encounter a full station, you can also go up to the kiosk and select Start->Station Full->Extra Time to get 15 more minutes.
